Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop arose from American Street Culture in the 1970s and remains as fresh and exciting to this day. The style is closely intertwined with street fashion, DJing, MCing and graffiti street art and is full of vibrance, flair and attitude.

Roots

The dance genre is deeply rooted in African American society, born within a turbulent time for the U.S. black community. From this struggle, a new art form came into being. Hip (meaning ‘present’) Hop (meaning ‘action’) became a way of life and a means of escape for young black Americans, particularly those in The Bronx, New York.

The amount of sub-genres that fall under the umbrella of Hip-Hop is, quite frankly, incredible… It simply is a mistake to think that once you have done one Hip-Hop class you are an expert in all of them as there are so many factions and routes to take this iconic and energetic dance medium! Roynon are proud to offer a diverse range of hip-hop skills in class which is both authentic and, like all our classes, following recognised syllabus. From locking and popping to whacking and boogaloo, they will all be introduced in these highly popular and rewarding Roynon sessions.

Still fresh!

There’s no doubt about it: signature moves in mainstream hip-hop are still as fresh and fun as they were back in the 70s and 80s. Some of the most iconic include The Running Man, Janet and Robocop – all of which and more will be unlocked and mastered in Roynon Performing Arts Hip-Hop classes!
